New Growth, New Beginnings

March 01, 2022

As we gear up to enter spring - the season of new beginnings - we are feeling particularly reflective about where we’ve been and where we’re going, both personally and at our restaurants. We know we are not alone in this moment of contemplation.

Since first setting up our 10x10 foot farmers market tent by the White House in May of 2013, we have enjoyed many beautiful spring seasons in DC, but we have never felt as excited and optimistic as we do this year. We are treating this spring as a fresh start more than ever before.

When we began this journey nine years ago, we wanted to build a business with a purpose. With our focus on quality over quantity, we are on a mission to get more people to eat more vegetables. More than just a taco shop serving seasonal, delicious food and drink that is both high-value and sustainable, we are disrupting an industry and inspiring people to make a change. We are proud of the strength, resiliency, and contributions that we have made to our community even during some of the toughest times. We are honored to be part of the fellowship of small businesses, locally and nationally, that remain at the heart of the American economy...and, we are prepared to come back stronger than ever.

We'll engage in new partnerships with like-minded organizations to amplify our efforts to get people to eat more vegetables, we're planning to put a few new items on the menu, and we look forward to welcoming more people back to offices and gathering spaces with a fresh take on our catering offerings.

Additionally, it’s particularly fitting that this time of rebirth coincides with Women’s History Month which begins today and further inspires us to make our own distinct mark.

We can't wait to stay in touch about what's to come!

JOIN US IN MAKING SMALL CHANGES

As we head back outdoors to run, walk, play, and otherwise enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer, we have the opportunity to envision and create a different future for our environment than the path we’re currently on predicts.

At Chaia, we believe small things can make a big difference. Here are just a few:

  • Think twice before shopping: reduce, reuse, recycle.

  • Turn down the bag.

  • Plant native species.

  • Eat more vegetables! Research has shown that the widespread adoption of eating a mostly plant-powered diet could lower carbon emissions by more than 50% (source: BBC Food).
