CHAIA MEANS LIFE
We are often asked, “what is the meaning of Chaia?”
When we first started our business in the farmers’ markets, we spelled our name Chaya. The inspiration was a perennial Mayan shrub lauded as a superfood and often called “tree spinach” (picture above). As our business evolved, so did our name. 'Chaia' has deep roots in Sanskrit, Hindi, and Hebrew. It means "the gift of light and life." This is what our mission has always meant to us - bringing new light to people, and ultimately our environment, through delicious, healthy, sustainable food.
